SAFARI WATERS RANCH HOUSE
The client has a particular interest in passive house standards and the typology they found most compelling was the Scandinavian Barn Home. Recent empty nesters, they have a prized airstream and large truck to pull it with that they wanted to be housed in an elegant way and used as their guest house when they weren't traveling.

SD + SITE PLAN
The shape of the driveway was designed to make coming in off the road following a long journey as easy as possible. One request was to use hanger style doors to open up the airstream garage turned guest quarters towards the house.
We started to work with the two long ranch style length buildings to frame a courtyard. This particular neighborhood needed to have a good amount of division between private yard and the large open spaces surrounding the home as there are live safari animals - namely zebra - that roam the interstitial space across the property.

SD + FLOOR PLAN
As this was a ground up build - we were able to work directly with the proper siting of the home to get the absolute best interactions with the sun - including a large sun room on the south side of the home, which serves as an extension of the living room.

SD+SUNROOM
Tasked with creating a sunroom that would be both an extension of their living room as well as a greenhouse of sorts to grow hydroponic vegetables - we worked to try out a few different dormer ideas - one which was requested by the clients and the other two were our ideas that we thought activated more of what they were hoping for while not distracting from the prominent gable roof shape that was the stylistic driver of the Scandinavian Barn Homes that the clients came to us with in their early list of ideas.
